Diljit Dosanjh, the singer, openly criticized the pressure to exclude references to alcohol in his music, daring officials nationwide to prohibit liquor instead. During his recent performance in Ahmedabad, he boldly announced his decision to refrain from singing about alcohol, citing Gujarat’s prohibition laws.

Following directions from the Telangana government to refrain from featuring themes of alcohol, drugs, and violence in his music prior to his performance in Hyderabad, singer Mr. Dosanjh expressed his disapproval of what he perceived as double standards by the authorities. As part of his Dil-Luminati India “I am happy to announce that once again, I received no notifications today,” he stated. “Furthermore, as Gujarat upholds prohibition laws, I will not be performing any alcohol-themed songs today or in the future.

He expressed his approval of the Gujarat government potentially enforcing a ban on liquor, despite the varied responses from the audience regarding the prohibition of alcohol in Gujarat.

His next move was a bold proposition to other regions: “If you shut down liquor outlets nationwide, I shall cease serenading about alcohol.” Amid the pandemic, while everything else was forced to close, he highlighted the exemption granted to liquor stores, stating, “The younger generation cannot be deceived.

He said he can’t be intimidated by such notices and that it’s very easy for musicians to tweak song lyrics.

Despite any adjustments made, he is confident that the audience will still delight in the music.

While interacting with the crowd, the singer went to the extent of calling for a movement to ban liquor.

As a result, he vowed to refrain from singing songs about alcohol during live concerts from the following day. Additionally, he offered not to perform songs referencing alcohol on declared dry days in any location he performs.

Mr Dosanjh said he had sung dozens of devotional songs, but people are only talking about ‘Patiala Peg’.

In addition, he highlighted the abundance of Bollywood tracks centered around alcohol and the promotion of alcohol brands. He emphasized the stark contrast between the extensive catalog of alcohol-related songs in the industry and his personal choice to refrain from incorporating such themes into his music. Diljit Dosanjh underlined his commitment by stating that despite the prevalence of alcohol endorsements by other Bollywood celebrities, he remains resolute in not promoting alcohol consumption.

The artist from a foreign land has the freedom to express and perform without constraints. However, when it comes to an Indian artist, there seems to be a need for interference. Yet, it is important to acknowledge the divine presence. “I will not allow this,” he emphasized.
